One Wall Centre
48-storey hotel and residential skyscraper
Location: Downtown Vancouver, BC
Date built: 2001
Date of test: April 2001
Purpose of Test: One Wall Centre, also know as the Sheraton Wall Centre North Tower, was Vancouver's tallest building from 2001 to 2008 and the first structure to make use of Tuned Liquid Column Dampers to reduce vibrations caused by wind. The "true" dynamic response of One Wall Centre is of great interest to structural engineers because of the unusual elliptical shape of the concrete shear core. Ambient vibration testing was conducted during the final stages of construction in order to obtain its modal characteristics.
