Milwaukee

225-foot tall, 4 leg, precast concrete air traffic control tower

Location: General Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee, WI

Date built: 1986

Date of test: 2007

Purpose of Test: In 2003, a new ASDE-X ground surface radar antenna was installed on the roof of the air traffic control cab at the General Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee, WI. After the antenna was installed, frequent reports of discomfort had been given by the on-duty controllers. After months of testing and analysis, the final solution was isolation of the antenna. The antenna was mounted to an isolation base, with soft material installed between the antenna's support and the cab structure to reduce the level of vibrations transmitted to the cab and its occupants.
