4-storey hospital with post-tensioned concrete floor slabs

Location: Seattle, WA

Date of test: July 2003

Purpose of Test: Vibration problems had been reported in the P-Wing, which houses the hospital laboratory facilities. These laboratories contain microscopes and various other instruments that are sensitive to building vibration. The potential sources of vibration were the building's mechanical systems and outside traffic from nearby construction. In all of the 10 minute tests, a three-axle dump truck, loaded with gravel, traveled around the roadways outside the building to simulate the effect of heavy trucks on the vibration levels in the building.
